About Georgian Economic Trends
The Georgian-European Policy and Legal Advice Centre (GEPLAC) was established in 1998 by the EU Tacis in order to support economic and legal reform in Georgia. Georgian Economic Trends (GET) project was established in 1995 to produce a quarterly economic review of economic developments in Georgia. GET and GEPLAC merged in January 1998. Activities under GEPLAC’s programme include the provision of economic policy and legal advice to the Georgian Government and the production of Georgian Economic Trends and Georgian Law Review.
Georgian Economic Trends quarterly economic review has been published and distributed both in Georgia and abroad since the end of 1995. Georgian Economic Trends is published in English and Georgian to provide a regular review and assessment of economic developments for economists, statisticians, Government officials, donors, foreign investors, private businesses, academic and scientific institutions, economic students, libraries and all those interested in the process of economic reform in Georgia. The edition draws on information from a wide range of government and non-government sources including in particular the State Department for Statistics, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, the National Bank of Georgia, the United State Social Safety Fund, Ministry of State Property Management as well as other Government ministries and departments. The aim is to provide an accessible but rigorous independent description and analysis of economic policy and changes and to make economic reform issues accessible to a wide audience. As part of this work, comments and advice are offered on policy and on the collection and dissemination of economic information. Each review includes chapters on national accounts; public finance; money, banking and exchange rate; prices; foreign trade and payments; privatisation; incomes, employment and the social safety net. Georgian Economic Trends current issue and all the previous ones are available on the Internet.
All editions are compiled using Microsoft Word and Excel and it is necessary to have these programmes on your computer to be able to read the files. The quarterly editions are approximately 1.5-2 Mb.
GET would like to acknowledge the help of numerous Georgian government ministries and departments in providing information, and particularly the co-operation of the staff of the State Department for Statistics.
Georgian Economic Trends may be freely used as a source and quoted, but when using GET material please acknowledge the source.
